The branch of the Public Institution for Fodder in Hama received about 400 tons of yellow corn crop from the farmers of Al-Ghab region, since the beginning of the receiving operations at the beginning of this month, to date.
And the branch manager, Eng. Tammam Al-Nizami, stated in a statement to SANA that receiving the crop takes place through the centers of the Foundation’s branch in Shaizar and Salhab. It is also possible to receive it from the tire center if the cultivation area is close to the city center and the largest quantity. Generally, it is received from the Salhab center because corn is grown in Hama. Concentrated in the jungle area.
Al-Nizami pointed out that before starting the process of receiving from farmers, the General Organization set several conditions and specifications for receiving the crop, then it was amended to receive the largest possible amount from farmers, the most important of which is to increase the maximum permissible limit of impurities from 8 percent to 12 percent, and that the humidity does not exceed 14 percent. Indicating that the price of receipt is determined according to the degree of humidity and crime, which is determined accurately, noting that the maximum price of the crop is 2,000 pounds per kilogram.
Al-Nizami confirmed that the processes of receiving yellow corn and disbursing its price are going well, and according to the plan set by the general administration of the institution, and the price of the crop is paid to farmers through agricultural banks immediately, and today the first cash payment will be disbursed.
For their part, a number of yellow corn farmers in Al-Ghab region demanded the necessity of subsidizing this crop, especially with regard to providing sufficient quantities of fuel and fertilizers at subsidized prices and amending some marketing conditions set by the Feed Corporation, in addition to increasing the marketing price, stressing that these measures will contribute to encouraging farmers to increase Cultivated areas and doubling the quantities of production.
And a number of other corn farmers, including Maher Saeed and Nael Al-Salloum, stated that the cost of cultivating yellow corn has become high at the present time, especially with the remarkable increase in fertilizer, fuel and labor prices this season, in addition to the high cost of transporting it to receiving centers, pointing to the need to grant soft loans. Short-term and interest-free each season to help secure input costs.
It is noteworthy that the General Authority for Forest Management and Development expected that about 30,000 tons of yellow corn would be produced out of the total cultivated area for the current season, which is 5,500 hectares.
