Everything is ready: the last details are in place, like this ox's Santa hat.

Today the festival starts on the Theresienwiese.

After a two-year Corona break, Tollwood starts today on the Theresienwiese.

In addition to the usual colorful program, there are also a few innovations.

It's crisp and fresh in Munich - and from Thursday onwards it's wintry and magical on the Theresienwiese.

Because: The Tollwood Festival is back after a two-year Corona winter break.

It starts at 2 p.m., then you can embark on a journey through international cuisine and different cultures until December 23rd.

As in the past, Tollwood combines the Christmas market, festival and art on one site.

Although this year a larger part of it takes place in the open air.

In order to save energy, those responsible forego three tents (we reported).

But there will be pagodas, i.e. covered areas, to protect against rain or snow.

Technology boss Biwi Labermeier says: "We are reducing our ecological footprint by reducing our energy consumption as much as possible and also relying on innovative heating systems." For example, the Mercato tent will be missing this year, but its silhouette has been reproduced with rubber bands.

Various works of art address what the future should look like

The energy crisis, climate change and the topic of sustainability play a particularly important role on the site anyway.

After all, this year's motto is: "Tatort Future".

Both the work of art at the entrance made of tall tree trunks and rubber bands and the action space encourage thinking about the environment.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations will be presented at a large celebratory table.

The message to the visitors: do something now so that our future is worth living in.

Anyone who strolls across the site immerses themselves in colorful diversity.

This includes a fire show that greets visitors right in front of the entrance.

There are different performances every day on a smaller stage, as well as walking acts, a children's tent and concerts in the cauldron.

All are free.

Four curling lanes are new this year

Visitors only have to buy a ticket for the performances in the big tent, the "Grand Chapiteau".

The Canadian Compagnie Machine de Cirque will be performing two shows here until December 31st.

You can also book a four-course menu created by star chef Holger Stromberg.

Traders present their goods at around 100 stands in the bazaar tent.

As usual, there is jewelry, clothing, crockery and more.

The market is always open on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 10.30 p.m., Tuesday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 11.30 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.

The gastronomy is open a little longer in the evening.

The four tents will also be illuminated in the evening this year, but for a shorter time than before.

A novelty this year: friends, families or colleagues can meet for curling on four lanes.
