The Supreme Court in Georgia: abortions should not be performed after six weeks | Israel Today

The cancellation of the verdict in the Roe v. Wade case is still reverberating in the USA • Tonight the judges in Georgia ruled: abortions should not be performed if the fetus has a heartbeat

Drama in Georgia: The state's Supreme Court reinstated the ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.

Seven out of nine justices supported the ban.

The decision overturns a determination of a lower court, which came out only eight days ago.

According to the first decision, the law of the state of Georgia, which prohibits abortions beyond six weeks, is invalid.

The reason: the law was approved in 2019, that is, before the dramatic decision of the US Supreme Court that overturned the ruling in the Roe v. Wade case. Also, another Georgia law allowed abortions even after six weeks.

The state of Georgia banned abortions about a month after the Supreme Court ruling in Washington.

It was determined that most abortions will be prohibited when a heartbeat is detected in the fetus - an activity that can be detected in the fetal cells after about six weeks.

This means that most abortions are de facto prohibited even before many women find out they are pregnant.

Now, with the decision of the Supreme Court of Georgia, abortions are again prohibited in the state.

Some of the clinics, which have already stopped returning to activity, will be forced to stop it.
