Calls to report violence against women continue unabated.

On the contrary, they increase.

In any case, this is the finding revealed by the annual report of the National Solidarity Women Federation (FNSM), an association which manages the 3919 helpline.

In total, the national number which helps women victims of violence received 92,674 calls in 2021, i.e. + 14% compared to 2019. “

A decrease compared to the year 2020, exceptional because marked by the period of confinement, but a sharp increase compared to the year 2019

”, notes the National Federation Solidarity Women (FNSM) in its report.

+ 14% calls compared to 2019

The increase in calls is due to several reasons.

In 2017, we doubled the number of incoming calls

”, comments Françoise Brié, general manager of the FNSM, in

Figaro

.

The year 2019 was marked by the Grenelle of domestic violence.

2020 by containment.

“The increase in 2021 is the continuity of these communication campaigns and the mobilization of women and the opening of the 24/24 number of the listening line, which was only open until 10 p.m. previously

”, analyzes the director.

One in five women threatened with death

The vast majority of calls are for reasons of domestic violence, says the FNSF.

70%

of calls are made by female victims,

12%

by family members,

12%

by relatives,

3%

by professionals and

0.3%

by perpetrators of violence.

The FNSF has referenced six types of domestic violence.

"

And on average, the victims denounce several forms of violence

", adds the study.

In 2021, nearly one in five women said they had been threatened with death.

Twice as much as in 2019 or 2020. The FNSF notes an increase in violence, whether it be marital rape, death threats, attempted murder or economic violence.

+ 72% of calls concerning sexual violence compared to 2019

Another highlight for the year 2021 in the report of 3919: the consequent increase, from July, of calls to denounce sexual violence.

"

Especially at night

," says Françoise Brié.

This year, 3919 received 3,501 calls, an increase of 72% compared to 2019 and 58% for 2020.

In general, women call when they "

have just been victims of a situation of violence

", or because they "

have anxieties and need to talk about the sexual violence they have suffered

", notes the director. .

+ 6% economic violence

The FNSM also focuses on economic violence, which is increasing by 6% in 2021. 50% of victims are employed.

In more than one out of ten situations, the victims are financially dependent on the violent partner.

"

One of the hypotheses being a greater precariousness of women at the end of the Covid period, which has weakened their professional situation

", points out the report.

To fight against violence against women, the FNSM insists on three points.

The creation of specialized courts, endowed with the means, in matters of gender-based violence, which are essential to improve the legal path for women.

Then, the better consideration of domestic violence in decisions concerning parental authority.

Finally, the fight against the precariousness of women victims of violence, including after separation.
