Wolfratshausen Mayor Heilinglechner expressly thanks the Rotary Club for the planting campaign in the Wolfratshausen mountain forest.
Wolfratshausen – Members of the Wolfratshausen-Isartal Rotary Club recently planted 150 silver firs and 30 yew seedlings in the Wolfratshausen mountain forest (we reported).
At the most recent meeting of the city council's building committee, the head of the city hall, Klaus Heilinglechner, expressly praised the Rotarians' initiative: "The joint tree planting campaign in the mountain forest made a lasting contribution to our homeland as well as social and ecological issues."

The Rotary Club had invested a good 1,500 euros in the planting campaign.
District forester Robert Nörr made sure that everything went professionally.
"Climate change is affecting the forests throughout Bavaria and also in our region," summed up Mayor Heilinglechner in his announcement to the members of the building committee.
The tree planting would make an important contribution to the climate adaptation of the mountain forest and contribute to protection against erosion during extreme weather events.
According to the head of the town hall, the forest is affected by climate change, but at the same time the forest is “part of the solution”.
According to Heilinglechner, the trees in the mountain forest protect the soil from erosion, store and filter water, stabilize the terrain and protect people and animals from landslides and landslides in heavy rain.

Mountain forest relies on deep roots due to steep slopes
The planting of silver firs in the steep slopes of the mountain forest is very important in the eyes of the town hall chief.
"With their taproots, the silver firs stabilize slopes that are at risk of slipping particularly effectively in combination with the natural offspring of maple, elm or beech."
Hail, snow and thunderstorms: Extreme weather hit the forest
In addition to climate change, various events have affected the Wolfratshausen mountain forest in recent years, the mayor looked back.
In 2019 there was a massive snowfall, heavy hailstorms in June/July last year led to the death of large areas of pine trees.
A thunderstorm this year caused severe damage.
"Many old trees were uprooted or simply torn down."
Active forestry important for healthy forest
A lot can be done for a healthy, sustainable forest, says Heilinglechner.
After storms or felling, foresters made sure to keep growing young trees in a forest stand - and to a "sustainable mixture of tree species".
However, a targeted felling of individual trees is indispensable for the stabilization of the forest.
If a tree grows too narrow, it only forms a small root that would not provide the tree with enough support.
If it gets more light by felling the neighboring tree, it develops more stably.
