The district of Freising wants to set an example on the International Day against Violence against Women.

The number of victims is frightening.

County

– The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is observed this Friday, November 25.

On this occasion, the evangelical Christ Ascension Church in Freising is illuminated in the color orange.

From November 25th, the International Day against Violence against Women, to December 10th, the International Day of Human Rights, the “Orange The World” campaign initiated by the United Nations will give special importance to monuments, public buildings and places around the world bathed in orange light to send a visible signal against violence against women.

Diakonie Freising supports action

"We, the Diakonie Freising, are also taking part in this campaign to show solidarity with the women affected," says Christina Mayer, head of the HilDa counseling center.

It was actually planned, in cooperation with the city, to illuminate various buildings orange on the day against violence against women.

"Because of the energy crisis, however, everyone involved made a conscious decision to briefly illuminate only one central building, the Ascension Church," says a statement.

“Violence against women is also a big issue in the district of Freising,” emphasizes Christina Mayer.

The number of women who seek help from HilDa (Hilfe ist da), the specialist advice center for domestic and sexualised violence, has been increasing significantly since early summer.

All women's shelter places are occupied

The same applies to the number of women who seek protection from their violent partner in the Freising women's shelter: all the places there are occupied, the number of inquiries is significantly higher than the number of women who can be admitted (we reported).

“The cases are not only increasing, they are also becoming more complex.

And the situation will get even worse in the winter months,” fears Mayer.

A problem that affects everyone

"Violence is not a problem in women's partnerships, but a social problem," says Christina Mayer.

It must always be pointed out that it can affect all women.

In order to make a contribution and set an example, the Diakonie Freising, the city of Freising and the district office will hoist flags with the inscription "Stop violence against women" at central locations - such as Marienplatz and the district office.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)
