The Sham Shui Po Police District and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department launched a joint operation code-named "Jing Jin" in the vicinity of Yi Kuk Street and Hai Tan Street in Sham Shui Po today (24th) to combat acts that block or hinder street cleaning operations, including placing Second-hand electrical appliances or other items are in public places such as driveways, sidewalks, and back alleys.
During the operation, the police issued a total of 10 fixed penalty notices to the offending vehicles; at the same time, FEHD staff issued a total of 22 "obstruction removal notices", requiring the owners concerned to remove the items within a specified time.
FEHD officers then seized, took away and detained a total of about 5.2 tonnes of items, including 10 washing machines, a refrigerator and a large number of computer parts, and carried out related street cleanup operations.
Police appeal to merchants and citizens not to occupy public places to carry out or facilitate business activities, so as not to block passages and endanger the safety of road users.
The FEHD also reminded members of the public to keep public places clean and hygienic, and not to place sundries in public places that would hinder cleaning operations.
Relevant actions will continue, and law enforcement and prosecution will be strengthened in light of the situation.
