Today, the leadership of the Baath University branch of the party held a cultural forum entitled (Cultural Identity... Prospects and Challenges) at the university's auditorium.
The head of the Arab Writers Union in Syria, Dr. Muhammad al-Hourani, addressed in a lecture he gave during the forum entitled (National Identity.. Awareness and History features adherence to the Arab identity starting with the Great Arab Revolt in the 1920s), stressing that all the aggressive attempts and plans that followed the Arab region were aimed at Targeting the Arab national identity.
Regarding the role of the Writers' Union in promoting the national identity of young people, Al-Hourani explained that the union is embracing these young people today, sponsoring youth talents, and seeking to include them in cultural institutions, in order to preserve their ideas and direct them towards what is beneficial to them and their country.
After the forum, a book fair was opened in the Faculty of Arts at the university, which is being held by the union with the aim of enabling students and those interested to acquire the book at reduced prices.
Regarding the exhibition, the head of the Writers Union branch in Homs, Omaima Ibrahim, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the aim of the exhibition, which includes two thousand books in children's literature, stories, novels, poetry, and literary, social and political studies, is to help students of the Faculty of Arts to own the book at an encouraging price.
Dr. Abd al-Rahman al-Bitar described the exhibition as important as it contained meaningful publications that serve our culture, thought and civilization, and is directed to the various segments of society. The writer and poet Ghada al-Youssef noted the importance of the exhibition as an activity that provides the cultural movement with an added value towards human building. As for the translator and writer Hussein Sonbly, he pointed to the importance of the exhibition. To inform young people about the products and works of these writers who established culture in Syria.
