According to various reports, the football player Waria Ghafouri was arrested in Iran due to his opposition to the regime and the fact that he condemned the suppression of the violent demonstrators and the killing of children during the protests.
In Iran, they explained that the player "slandered the national team" when he claimed that it represented the Islamic State and not Iran."
Following the arrest, fans and journalists began calling on FIFA, the world soccer organization, to act for Ghafouri's release.

The 35-year-old Ghafouri made 28 appearances for the Iranian national team, the last of which was three years ago.
He was called to the initial squad before the 2018 World Cup, but did not survive the screenings and was not among the 23 players who then went to the tournament in Russia.
He is currently the captain of the Fulad team and previously won the Iranian championship with Sefahan.
