Cristiano debuted in Qatar between tears and a record 1:11
Stadium 974, Doha, Qatar (CNN) --
Cristiano Ronaldo established himself on Thursday as the first male soccer player in history to have scored goals in five different World Cups by taking a penalty in Portugal's 3-2 win over Ghana.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored goals in the previous four editions of the World Cup and now has eight goals to his name at the World Cups, after scoring the 65th minute penalty.
This is welcome news for Ronaldo, in the midst of a week in which Manchester United announced that the two parties had agreed to terminate the striker's contract with immediate effect, after he gave an explosive television interview.

Ronaldo won the penalty which he then scored, placing his body in front of Mohammed Salisu and hitting the ground when he felt contact from behind.
His penalty was undeniable, scoring him into the top corner of the net before running to his fans to celebrate.
Ghana equalized soon after thanks to Andre Ayew, but Portugal responded with two in quick succession.

João Félix restored the lead and Rafael Leão added a third before Osman Bukari's header gave Ghana a slim chance to come back late on.
