The Belgian national team showed a weak and disappointing performance in its opening match at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but still managed to beat Canada 0:1 thanks to Michy Batshuayi's goal - and mainly thanks to Thibaut Courtois, who deflected a penalty and prevented the Canadian attack from subduing him.
The undisputed star of the Red Devils is Kevin de Brauna, a Manchester City midfielder who actually had a particularly weak game by his standards.
He delivered only 33 balls, of which 23 were successful, threatened the Canadian goal only once and at least twice could have put a player in front of a goalkeeper, as he does almost on a weekly basis in the Premier League, but delivered in the wrong direction.
Despite all this, at the end FIFA awarded de Brauna the title of man of the match - and certainly for the first time in his life he admitted that it was an award he did not deserve. "I don't think I had a good game, I don't know why I was selected as outstanding and I received the award," said de Brauna , "Maybe I won because of my name.
Canada deserves the compliments.
" De Brauna said about the game: "We didn't manage to build our game, but we know what we have to change and improve.
We weren't precise, I didn't have a good game either, but everyone fought and that's the least you can ask for."

De Brauna did not celebrate when he scored the goal and instead talked to the coach Roberto Martins, and in the Belgian media it was even reported that he simultaneously confronted the stopper Toby Alderweireld - the goal maker who was actually silenced by the midfielder.
The brakeman was asked about this at the end and said: "There were emotions, we are men and not children, we have already talked about everything."
De Brauna commented on the incident and clarified: "We gave away long balls instead of taking advantage of open spaces. It was a conversation about football. Now we'll forget about everything and move on."
