Dießen - Utting has a "citizens' meeting place" and Schondorf has a "village house" for senior citizens.

Events for the older generation are regularly organized here, such as game afternoons, readings, film screenings or cooking and baking together.

Marlen Emhofer, senior citizens' advisor, would like to finally initiate such a permanent meeting point for open and informal encounters in Dießen, the largest community on the western shore of Lake Ammer.

At the current meeting of the Senior Citizens' Advisory Board of the market town, she emphatically spoke out in favor of it.

After all, more than 33 percent of the current 11,183 residents of Diessen are older than 60 years.

While the national average age is 43.8 years, it is 47.5 years in the Ammersee municipality.

The trend is rising and thus a major challenge for the future.

In order to protect the interests of older people and actively involve them in society, there is a seven-member senior citizens' advisory board in the market town as a "lobby for oldies".

Chairman Andreas Lanzinger was happy to accept the suggestion of a Dießen senior citizens' meeting, but pointed out the lack of suitable premises and the necessary sponsorship.

In addition to vacant shops, the discussion brought up the former Carl Orff Museum in Hofmark 3. It would be ideal because it is barrier-free, centrally located and therefore within walking distance.

The owner of the property is the St. Ulrichswerk of the Diocese of Augsburg, which could perhaps take over the sponsorship.

Municipal councilor and senior citizens' representative Antoinette Bagusat curbed the euphoria, as there were already various considerations for the future use of the former Orff Museum.

The neighboring Albert Teuto Library of the Diocese of Augsburg has already taken over the first floor.

Among other things, the Ammersee-West adult education center is also interested in the premises, since the VHS office in St. Georgen is quite remote.

However, joint use due to the different occupancy plans is quite conceivable, according to Marlen Emhofer.

As Andreas Lanzinger and his deputy Dr.

Ludger Stürwald added that there had already been talks with VHS boss Heike Gerl about cooperation in the matter of "culture table".

As reported, following the Starnberg example, the aim was to offer socially disadvantaged citizens and holders of the "Social Card" remaining tickets or reduced-price tickets for cultural events.

Since the Starnberger Kulturtafel has probably disappeared into thin air during the Corona break, think of synergies with the VHS.

Their program offers many cultural highlights and guided tours that are also interesting for the seniors target group.

Independent of the VHS, the senior citizens' advisory board is also planning its own public events.

After the start of the year in the Blue House on the subject of "saving energy", a former police officer will give a lecture on "grandchildren's tricks and other scams".

Another lecture will deal with “pensions, living wills and wills”.

The advisory board has a Christmas wish for the community for the “Blaues Haus” cultural forum: In order to get to the upper part of the hall, a mobile ramp for wheelchair users must be purchased.

Andreas Lanziger hopes that he will be able to report completion at the next meeting on February 14, 2023.
