The activities of the second day of the Syrian Culture Days celebration, organized by the Ministry of Culture “Heritage and Creativity”, included drawing and handicraft workshops, Arabic calligraphy, a book fair and a film screening at the Cultural Center in Homs.

The Department of Children and Adolescents hosted workshops titled “Culture is the Memory of a Nation,” and included drawing arts, organ, flower making, recycling of environmental harmony, and Arabic calligraphy for children between the ages of 5 and 17, under the supervision of artists, in addition to a book exhibition that carried various titles, mostly aimed at children and adolescents.

Saba Wassouf, Director of the Children and Adolescents Department in the Homs Culture Directorate, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that it is remarkable this year to host children and young people with disabilities who have achieved achievements in various aspects of life, and to integrate them with the children participating in the events who came from several public and private schools.

Wassouf drew attention to the participation of the young Jamal Ajeeb, who was able to overcome his disability due to losing his sight since birth through his talent by playing the organ, and the young Najma Ahmed, who has Down syndrome and who won local and international awards, by lifting weights, to prove that with determination, persistence and perseverance, a person can achieve his dreams.

The director of the Zenobia Cultural Foundation, Sawsan Khabbaz, indicated that the book fair accompanying the events included 600 titles for children, including stories, novels, educational books, books for people with disabilities, and various titles of interest to intellectuals and interested readers.

The children, Qaswara Al-Ibrahim, Issa Dawoud, Masa Al-Essa and Sham Haddad, expressed their happiness at participating in the painting and recycling workshops, because of their benefit in transforming waste and composition into useful and beautiful works of art.

The film “The Deceived” based on the Palestinian writer Ghassan Kanafani’s novel “Men in the Sun” was screened in Abdel Moeen Mallouhi Hall, produced by the General Film Corporation in 1972 and directed by Tawfiq Saleh. The film will be shown again today at 6:00 pm in the Cultural Center in Marmarita.
