Despite the energy crisis, Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) will have its traditional ice rink for the end of year celebrations.

Installed since 2015 on the Place du Capitole, near the Christmas market, the open-air ice rink, provided by the company Synerglace, allows Toulouse residents who are not going on vacation to have fun and discover winter sports.

From November 25, they will therefore be able to put on their skates.

"To deal with the energy crisis, in October we announced a plan of 25 measures whose effectiveness, in addition to the efforts made since 2014 to reduce our energy consumption, allows us to preserve the warm atmosphere of the Christmas holidays. end of the year in Toulouse, assures Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor.

It's a perfectly assumed choice, which we made after having studied in detail, both its environmental impact and the service provider's commitments.

But which also takes into account the enthusiasm of Toulouse residents, of all ages, who are more and more numerous, each year, to come and try ice skating.

The town hall emphasizes that particular attention has been paid to the supplier's eco-responsible guarantees.

The energy cost of this ice rink is 2 Kwh/m², or 10 cents/skater, ie it consumes the energy of a year's use of a fridge-freezer.

Like last year, the supplier specified that it uses food glycol as coolant, a product that is more respectful of the environment and has no harmful consequences in the event of a leak.

The glycol water, made up of 70% water, circulates in a closed circuit in the glacier carpet and is completely recycled.

In six years, attendance at the Capitole ice rink has increased by more than 10,000 admissions.

Nearly 18,260 people took advantage of it in December 2021.
