Final at the Karl Obermayr Monument competition: The jury's decision is imminent.

One of the favorites comes from the district.

Freising

– The realization of a monument for the Freising actor Karl Obermayr (1931 to 1985) on the steps of the open Moosach in Freising's old town is getting closer: the jury could make its decision at the end of this week, and a week later it will be announced which one artist won the race.

Of the original 17 drafts that were presented to the public at the beginning of July, half a dozen are still in the running, according to Bernhard Reiml, chairman of the Freising City Home Care Association, which is in charge.

There are "two, three" hot favorites, as Reiml says - one of them comes from the district.

The city councilors have the same opinion as the citizens

Around 300 interested Freisingers came to the Furtnerbräu at the beginning of July to present the results of the competition to cast their votes for their favorite design.

About half of the drafts fell flat.

Now the jury is to meet at the end of the week and crown the winning design from the remaining "six, seven" models.

In addition to members of the association's board of directors, the cultural advisor Susanne Günther and two other personalities from Freising's cultural life also have a say in the decision-making process.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The city councilors of the various factions, to whom the association recently presented the drafts before a city council meeting, have already expressed their opinion.

"The vote was exactly the same as that of the Freisinger citizens in July," reports Reiml - "it came down to the two or three models that were also best received by the citizens".

And then there's the money...

It is now planned that the jury will make its decision at the weekend.

The Stadtheimatpflege association then wants to discuss details of how to proceed next week in a meeting.

Then the artist who made the race should be informed - and finally the result will be announced.

According to reports, it will probably be a life-size bronze figure that will be placed standing or sitting on the banks of the Moosach.

Things would still have to be clarified together with the artist and the city administration: How will the figure be anchored?

How to protect them from vandals.

Where exactly is she coming from?

And then there's the money.

The monument is estimated at 70,000 euros.

According to the Obermayr website (www.karl.-obermayr.de), 13,429 euros have been donated so far.

According to Reiml, a few more donations have been received in the meantime – and there have been commitments from some sponsors.

Good to know

Furthermore, the association Stadtheimatpflege Freising depends on donations.
