The Lamma shipwreck occurred on the night of National Day on October 1, 2012, resulting in the death of 39 people, including 8 children. However, the tragedy has not yet held a coroner's court. Some family members hope to convene a coroner's court to thoroughly investigate the truth of the incident. Today (24 Japan) High Court judge Gao Haowen ruled that the family lost the case and dismissed the application.

Zhao Bingquan is a survivor of the Lamma shipwreck, and his sister died in the shipwreck that year.

Earlier, he and other family members of the deceased applied to the court to convene a coroner's court. Regarding today's ruling, he admitted that he was disappointed. He believed that there was still room for detailed investigation of the accident.

Asked whether he would appeal, he said he would discuss it with his legal team.

On October 1, 2012, under the bright fireworks, the waters off Lamma Island were in chaos. The Hong Kong Electric Lamma No. 4 carrying 124 passengers was hit by the Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry Haitai before the fireworks were released. Less than two minutes after the stern plunged into the seabed, 39 passengers, including eight children, died.

Ten years after the accident, the Chief Executive was replaced by Leung Chun-ying, then Carrie Lam, and then Li Jiachao. However, many mysteries remained unsolved in the tragedy of that day, and the case has not yet come to an end.

In June this year, some family members of the shipwreck filed a petition with the High Court, requesting an inquest into the cause of death, hoping to further reveal the truth.

In the past 10 years, the independent investigation committee appointed by the chief executive, the internal investigation team of the Transport and Housing Bureau at that time, and the police have successively conducted investigations on the incident and completed three reports, which respectively revealed that the Marine Department made mistakes in the inspection of Lamma 4 in the past, and the ship was not found Contrary to the picture, the watertight door disappeared, causing the ship to sink rapidly within two minutes after the collision, but no official has ever assumed legal responsibility for his mistakes.

The Department of Justice stated last year that no one will be prosecuted for the maritime disaster.
