With the aim of devoting the concept of sustainability in planting forest trees for the development of forests, the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform launched five national afforestation campaigns with the participation of families, school and university students, trade unions, agencies, organizations and institutions.
The afforestation campaigns launched annually by the Ministry of Agriculture begin on the first day of November of each year, and continue until the last day of March, according to Director of Forestry at the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Ali Thabet.
Thabet revealed, in a statement to SANA reporter, that there are 5 national afforestation campaigns: the central and secondary afforestation campaign under the slogan (Let's plant...for a green future), the family afforestation campaign under the slogan (For the love of the land...we plant trees), and the afforestation campaign for schools and universities. Under the slogan (With hope, we plant trees), the campaign of tree planting by trade unions, bodies, organizations and institutions under the slogan (For a better climate.. we plant trees), and a campaign to distribute 5 free forest plants for each family under the slogan (Love.. Giving.. Growth).
Thabet explained that the central celebration of the Tree Festival will be held this year in Safita, Tartous Governorate, which falls on the last Thursday of each year, which is the central Tree Festival, pointing out that the ministry also holds a sub-central festival in each governorate.
Regarding the availability of forest seedlings, Thabet pointed out that there are 4,500,000 forest seedlings available in nurseries ready for distribution, sale, afforestation and free distribution to citizens.
Thabet indicated that more than a million saplings will be planted, noting that most of the areas prepared for afforestation are the ones that were exposed to fires during the previous years, encroachments and breakage, as about 2,500 hectares will be forested, in addition to foresting only 3 hectares as new areas compared to 100 hectares last year.
Thabet expressed the Ministry of Agriculture's welcome to all those wishing to participate in these campaigns, calling for the importance of paying attention to the plants that are planted every year.
