A car was hit and carried away by a freight train in Ratingen on Thursday.
The person in the car survived with serious injuries.
Ratingen – Serious accident at level crossing: In Ratingen (Mettmann district in North Rhine-Westphalia), a car and a freight train collided at a level crossing late Thursday afternoon.
The car was carried away 50 meters.

As a spokesman for the Ratingen fire brigade announced in the evening, the accident happened around 5:14 p.m. at the Auermühle level crossing.
"For an unknown reason, the car with one occupant was hit by the moving train and swept away," said the fire department spokesman.
According to the fire department, the train only stopped 50 meters behind the level crossing.
By then the car had been carried away.
Serious accident with a freight train: passers-by free a person from the car
The fire brigade initially assumed that the person was trapped in the car.
Fortunately, that was not confirmed.
Passers-by saw the accident and reacted immediately.
They were able to free the person from the car, according to the fire department spokesman.
The person concerned, so far there was no information on age or gender, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The train driver suffered a slight shock.
However, they did not have to be treated by the emergency services.
The cause of the accident is still unclear.
Only on Monday there had been a tragic accident at a level crossing.
In Grevenbroich, a cyclist was hit by a regional train.
The man died at the scene of the accident.
