Opinion Leftist Smotrich in disguise? | Israel today

2022-11-24T09:20:17.702Z

When it became clear that Smotrich was not impressed by the demands - he became a "megalomaniac". So what if Lieberman got the treasury with fewer mandates at the time? It was different

The late Uri Orbach was once asked why in state ceremonies Netanyahu usually wears an ultra-Orthodox cloth cap. "Oh," said Uri and quipped with typical genius: "It's because the knitted cap is always in his pocket anyway."

Anyone who has spent the last few days on social media, especially among the nit-picky part of Likud voters, anyone who has listened to Netanyahu-loyal commentators on the various channels, and anyone who has been through the incoming ruling party's briefings, understands that in these days of painful attacks, the right-wing in Israel has a new enemy.

An inclusive, cynical and cruel enemy, who came to destroy the face of the earth on the way to the extinction of the Zionist entity.

Or worse - bring Yair Lapid back to power.

The enemy - as of these minutes - is Bezalel Smotrich, of course.

At first he was just a "snoozer", refusing to sign here and now any document presented to him by Netanyahu.

For some reason he demands to go over the annoying fine print so that a full-fledged right-wing government will finally be established, the brazen one.

When the days passed and it became clear that Smotrich was not too impressed by the demand for panic and the evasion of his demands, he had already become a "megalomaniac", and the smiling allusions became not smiling at all.

Who is it that will demand the security/treasury portfolio?

So what if Lieberman got the treasury with fewer mandates at the time - it would have been completely different, and don't ask why.

When even this style of speech was ignored by Smotrich with ease, and it was even easier to jump for a week to visit the USA, smoke began to come out of the ears of some of Netanyahu's voters, and Smotrich was already seeking respect for the rank of Israel's tyrant. When that didn't help either, he was already loudly compared to the To mention his name - Naftali Bennett, have mercy on Lezlan. At this point, other Likud supporters also began to blush with embarrassment: to compare Bennett, the symbol of Israeli opportunism for generations, with the only one who remained true to his values? Well, isn't that a bit exaggerated? They asked. Of course not.

The emotional hurricane accompanied by a noisy tantrum that the hawkish faction in the Likud is going through, masks the reluctance in a painful recognition of reality: the days of the knitted and blindly loyal MPDL, the one that was repeatedly forced for years to settle for crumbs, only to watch alternating leftist parties choose whatever role they want - well, Those days are over. Netanyahu has for the first time encountered a large ideological public, who knows that his unsigned promises are worth nothing. A public who knows that Netanyahu's "we'll sign and we'll talk later" words are code for "it won't happen, but making promises doesn't cost money."

The (relatively quiet) support among many Likud voters for delaying Smotrich, who for his part is also not afraid to go to another round of elections knowing that he will only get stronger, embodies Netanyahu's biggest fear in recent years: a loud demand from the majority of the public in Israel - including the Likud - that he rule.

May he fulfill what he promised just two weeks ago.

Let him say it out loud.

Shippers that in the days of terrorist attacks, the rule of officials and judges is dangerous and the radicalization of the left in Israel is dangerous - in such days the expectations are higher, and the credit is small.

Oh, and the screams of the activists?

They don't help, just embarrassing.

By the way, as of the writing of these lines, Ben Gvir also began to create difficulties at the negotiating table. But there is nothing to be surprised about, we always knew that Ben Gvir was a leftist in disguise. T.L.H.
