Penzberg – The new Penzberg family pool “Piorama” is becoming more expensive again.

In addition, the opening in 2023 will probably take place later than planned.

No, the municipal utilities no longer want to commit themselves given the imponderables in the construction sector for the family pool project, which costs millions.

In any case, André Behre, board member of the municipal company (KU), didn't want to hang too far out of the window at the recent citizens' meeting.

He did not give an opening date for the "Piorama".

But remained vague: "It will be sometime next year," he formulated it very carefully.

No wonder, the municipal builder was way off the mark with his schedule over the past three years.

As reported, the old wave pool was demolished in 2019, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building took place in November 2019.

But then the KU separated from the architect, followed by a halt to construction and lengthy replanning, and the shell construction company only moved in at the beginning of October 2020.

In November two years ago, the foundation stone was ceremoniously laid, this year in March the city and municipal utilities celebrated the construction of the spacious family pool with swimming pool, almost 110 meter long outdoor slide and sauna area.

Municipal utilities do not commit themselves

However, it is unclear when the Penzberger and hoped-for guests from the surrounding area will finally be able to swim and sweat.

The planned opening at the end of 2022 was most recently in spring 2023 - but Behre no longer wants to commit to that.

"We also suffer from late deliveries," he alluded to bottlenecks and material shortages everywhere.

After all, the Stadtwerke boss had good news for the audience: "We are building." But there was nothing more to it.

The board sighed audibly at the tense construction situation, which was fueled by the Ukraine war and the pandemic.

Problems with iron deliveries on the construction site would confuse several trades at once: "It's a bit exciting at the moment."

A further increase in costs goes hand in hand with the timing imponderables.

The initially calculated around 20 million euros turned into around 26 million euros - and now the forecast is around 31 million euros.

This figure was taken from Behre's presentation at the citizens' meeting.

PV system for operation

And then the Stadtwerke board member had good news from the family pool: A large PV system with around 100 to 120 kWp will be installed on the "Piorama".

The electricity is used for the bathing paradise, which would ultimately reduce operating costs.

There is a multi-storey car park to go with the new bathroom.

The work has started, the shell of the building should be finished this year.

Behre estimated the construction costs at around 3.8 million euros.

There are 200 public parking spaces.

The highlight: Parking should be handled digitally, a receipt would not be necessary.

According to Behre, in addition to a PV system, ten to 20 e-charging stations are planned.
