On Thursday, the police searched the apartments of two climate activists in Leipzig who had damaged a painting in Dresden in August.

Leipzig - Early on Thursday morning, police officers in Leipzig gained access to two apartments belonging to climate activists from the "Last Generation" group.

As the public prosecutor's office in Dresden and the State Criminal Police Office in Saxony announced, the officers were looking for evidence in connection with an adhesive action by three activists that took place in Dresden in August.

More than 60 officers were involved in the operation in the early hours of the morning.

"The measures are about finding evidence in the context of the crime," the statement said.

According to this, a search is made for “several objects”.

, the apartments of the two activists who had stuck to Raphael's world-famous work "Sistine Madonna" in August were specifically searched: Maike G. and Jakob B. At the protest action in the Old Masters Picture Gallery in Dresden the young adults glued themselves to the gilded frame of the painting while a 22-year-old filmed the action.

At the time, the slogan “Stop the fossil madness” was written on the activists’ shirts.

Since the gold-plated picture frame was damaged during the gluing campaign, damage of around 4,000 euros was incurred.

In addition, there was a loss of income of 7,000 euros due to the necessary closure of the museum.

According to the SKD, there was a total damage of around 12,000 euros.

Adhesive actions by climate activists from the group "Last Generation" have recently increased in Germany.

Streets in particular are blocked nationwide during the protests.

Just a few days ago, members of the movement stuck to the Stachus in Munich.

With the actions, the activists want to draw attention to the climate crisis and promote the expansion of renewable energy.
