Brazil's Supreme Electoral Court imposed a huge fine on the party of outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro, because it asked it to annul votes won by former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
According to Agence France-Presse, the president of the court, Alexandre de Moraes, said: “The lawsuit filed by the Liberal Party was motivated by bad faith, and therefore the court decided to fine him $ 2.4 million.”
Yesterday, the party asked the Supreme Electoral Court to annul the votes cast by voters in more than 280,000 electronic ballot boxes, claiming that they were defective, and denied its candidate victory. However, the Supreme Electoral Court rejected this argument, stressing in a decision it published on its website that there is no evidence and circumstances to justify conduct an extraordinary investigation into it.
Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was elected on the 31st of last month as president of Brazil, by defeating his rival, outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro, in the second and final round of the presidential elections.
