Old Syrian traditional and folkloric songs with young voices spread the atmosphere of joy on the drama stage at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts, and competed through four musical groups from different Syrian governorates.

The Good Shepherd Choir, led by Elias Semaan, was crowned the first winner of the national competition, the first for Syrian choirs, which was launched by the Ministry of Culture under the title (Syrian Heritage), as part of the activities of the Syrian Culture Days 2022 celebration.

During today's evening, the choir presented my songs (Ya Msafrafa fi Al-Bahr) and (Between Al-Ridha and Bein Al-Dalal) and an English and a French song at the end of the competition. The competition shield was presented to them, in addition to a material reward, and certificates of participation were distributed to the four teams.

The Arjwan Choir from Tartous, led by Bishr Issa, presented a program of three pieces of Syrian heritage, the first is the short song, which was previously known as (Taqtoukah) (Ya Nour Hobak), the song that was popularized at the beginning of the twentieth century, and the song (A Al Rozana) with three variations on the main melody, As for the third folkloric song (Ala Dalouna) in the form of a rondo, three movements are arranged in the Hijaz and Nahawand shrines, and the last is a dance, they were accompanied on the piano by Ms. Shaza Tohme.

The audience was entertained by the Zvartnots choir, led by Maestro Guyana Simonian Derian, who came from Aleppo, with songs from the Aleppo heritage, with new arrangements, namely (Lulu Bulu), followed by a traditional link from the songs (Bali Maak) and (The Nightingale), and the third song is from the Armenian heritage.

As for the Spentianian Choir of the Armenian Youth Association in Aleppo, its members carried with them voices of love and peace, and they presented Mushahi (When He Seemed To Be Equal) and (Ya Ghazal Qad Javani) with a western arrangement by Armenian musicians, in addition to a group of Armenian traditional songs.

The member of the jury, Maestro Misak Baghbudarian, pointed out in a statement to SANA that the idea of ​​the competition started from the Syrian Choirs Forum in 2017 in the first edition of it, and the second edition in 2021 when it was discovered that there are many creative choirs in Syria working hard to spread this culture, indicating that it has been Selection of four finalists out of ten choirs.

Maestro Ghada Harb, a member of the committee, also stated that the spirit of competitiveness was positive and supportive for all teams, and its main goal was to gain experience from all sides and learn about artistic diversity, both musically and lyrically, and even in performance methods, explaining that the committee’s choices were based on choosing teams that perform choral arranged singing and not solo performance. Solo, in addition to the quality based on traditional singing, so that the absolute lyrical space is a comprehensive heritage art painting for all Syrian governorates, with a modern melodic distribution.

Maestro Andrei Maalouli, Director General of Dar Al-Assad, emphasized the importance of this project in preserving, caring for, and developing the Syrian heritage, and bringing together the experiences of the choirs, each of which was launched last year, to give concerts in the Syrian governorates, and to introduce the audience to several schools of collective singing.

He saluted the late great maestro Hossam El Din Primo, who left physically and remained present in spirit and thought and founder of collective singing and many choirs in Syria.
