Under the title “Lights on Cardiac Developments and the European Congress of Cardiology 2022, the Syrian Association of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery held the 24th semi-annual scientific symposium at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.

The topics of the symposium will focus during 26 lectures over two days on heart failure, arrhythmias, heart tumors, ischemic heart disease and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The President of the Association, Dr. Muhammad Yassin Bani Al-Marjah, explained in a speech during the opening that the symposium will shed light on the latest developments in scientific progress and the lectures that were delivered at the Cardiology Conference in the European Society that took place last August, and modern treatment measures and knowledge of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

Head of the Scientific Links Office in the Medical Association, Dr. Fahd Shribati, emphasized the support of the Syndicate for the medical associations that work to provide valuable information and clinical practices to specialist doctors and residents.

Director of Public Relations of the Society, Dr. Elias Barakat, pointed out that the Society is working to keep abreast of modern scientific developments and continuing medical education, explaining that heart disease is the number one killer in the world, and risk factors must be controlled, especially among young people due to smoking, which is considered the main risk factor for coronary disease. In addition to other factors, which are arterial pressure, high sugar and fat in the blood, continuous psychological hardships, lack of sleep and lack of exercise.

Director of the General Authority of the Al-Basil Hospital for Heart Diseases and Surgery in Damascus, Dr. Ragheb Suleiman, presented during his lecture a rare case of a malignant and cancerous tumor in the cavities of the heart and explained the methods of its measures and treatment, pointing out that the occurrence of a tumor in the heart is rare and few, and that it is malignant is even rarer.

Specialist in cardiology and surgery, Dr. Talal Mahalla, gave a presentation on the prevention of heart disease, especially coronary artery disease, which requires laboratory studies to diagnose the pathogen to prevent it, pointing out that Syria is classified among the high-risk countries for heart disease compared to other countries.

The symposium will be accompanied by a medical exhibition for a number of companies specialized in medical equipment and modern medical industries.
