Based on the importance of literary competitions in stimulating writing, thought and creativity, the Ministry of Culture - the Syrian General Authority for Books honored within the activities of the Syrian Culture Days the winners of the first three places for its literary and artistic competitions for the year 2022 in the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.

The first place in the Hanna Mina Award for the novel was won by the writer Susan Al-Saabi for her novel “As if I Dance Like a Noun”, the second place went to Enas Al-Okla for her novel “Blue Shutters”, and the third place went to Nizar Mezher for his novel “The Sacred Apples”.

Enas Al-Aqla expressed her happiness at winning the second place in the Hanna Mina Prize for the novel, indicating that her novel “Blue Shutters” is her second, and she considers it the most beautiful launch from her country, Syria, pointing to the importance of the award as it is issued by the Book Authority.

As for the Sami Al-Droubi Award for Translation, the translator Rana Zakka won the first place for her text “A bed of stone.” The second place came for the translator Hamed Al-Abd for his text “The Moral Basis of Democracy.” The third place went to Haidara Asaad for his poetry collection “That Little Monster.”

The second place winner, Hamed Al-Abed, expressed his happiness at achieving this position, praising the importance of the competition in highlighting translators as unknown soldiers in the field of literature, stressing that Syria was and still is a pioneer in the field of translation.

As for the Omar Abu Risha Prize for Poetry, the first place was won by Shadi Hammoudi for his text “A Tour in Echoes of a Lost Memory,” and the second for Raeda Al-Khudary for her text “Gossip.” The third place went to Fatima Fajr for her text “A Mazoon from Encounters.”

The first-place winner, Shadi Hamoudi, pointed out that this is his first participation, through which he was able to obtain the first place based on his innate talent in writing poetry even though he is a dentist, pointing to the importance of the competition in highlighting young talents.

In the Children’s Short Story Award, Alaa Diab won first place for her story “The Sun Will Shine Again,” while Julnar Salima won second place for her story “Peace Bombs,” while Hind Mostafa won third place for her story “The Bee Tutti.”

First place winner Alaa Diab indicated that this award is one of the most important awards she has won throughout her literary career, and it is a support for her to provide the best in writing for the Syrian child.

The Minister of Culture, Dr. Labana Mashouh, confirmed in a statement to reporters that this competition has become an annual tradition that aims to highlight Syrian creative talents in various genres of literature such as stories, poetry, novels, children's literature and translation, in order to introduce, publish and promote their works.

In turn, the Director General of the Writers' Association, Dr. Nayef Al-Yassin, explained in his speech that these competitions were established to constitute financial and moral support and encouragement for Syrian creators by drawing attention to their works, publishing and promoting them, indicating that the participating works were evaluated by committees of the best academics and writers known for their integrity, professionalism and keenness to Culture, thought and creativity.

The winners of the first three positions received certificates of appreciation and material prizes, in the presence of a crowd of intellectuals and intellectuals, as well as honoring the members of the jury in appreciation of their efforts during the stages of the competition.
