The obstetrics department of the Neuperlach Clinic is to be relocated to Harlaching.

The staff is fighting the merger with a petition.

Munich – The hospitals in Munich recently sounded the alarm: According to the head of the Munich Clinic, Axel Fischer, inflation and rising energy prices could plunge entire facilities into bankruptcy.

Merging or even closing individual stations seems a logical measure to save costs.

This is exactly why the obstetrics department at the Neuperlach Clinic fears for its existence - and fights passionately for it.

The Neuperlacher Klinikum is one of five locations of the Munich Clinic, the others are in Bogenhausen, Schwabing, Harlaching and Thalkirchner Straße.

As early as 2015, the city council decided to merge the obstetric departments in Harlaching and Neuperlach.

But after massive protests and an initial petition with over 5,000 signatures, it was decided to keep the women's clinic in Neuperlach until 2024.

Now the team, consisting of a total of 50 midwives and (pediatric) nurses, is starting another petition.

A closure of the women's clinic would mean "a deterioration in the care for all families in Neuperlach and the neighboring districts, as well as for the surrounding area." The motives for the planned closure of the Neuperlach maternity ward are clear to the employees: "This centralization policy is based on economically justified savings measures and does not aim to improve healthcare.”

Neuperlach Women's Clinic is praised by ex-patients for care and expertise

As a reason for maintaining the obstetrics department, the petitioners cite the increasing number of births in Munich and especially in Neuperlach.

The well-rehearsed team has the opportunity to look after women personally and according to their needs close to where they live.

This is not possible in larger houses.

In the event of a closure, some employees would also not be able or want to continue working in obstetrics.

The petition currently has over 16,000 signatures.

Under the description, supporters can write a text explaining why they signed the petition.

The committed, individual and medically good care is emphasized there again and again.

"The obstetrics in Neuperlach are exceptionally good and there is loving individual care of the woman giving birth - at the highest medical level," writes one woman, for example.

Over 16,000 people have already signed the petition

Another lady who gave birth to her children there tops it all off.

“I've given birth here multiple times and the team is heaven-sent!

Everyone should be able to experience that!” Another experience report: “It is a very good maternity ward.

I've only had good experiences.

That was not the case in other clinics.”

With 25,000 signatures, the petition would be one of the most signed on change.org, the world's largest petition platform.

It remains to be seen whether the merger of the Neuperlacher maternity ward with that in Harlaching can prevent this.
