Volkswagen is not taking any consequences from the scandal surrounding the "One Love" armband banned by FIFA.

Other partners also remain loyal to the DFB.

For football fans, a World Cup is usually the highlight of the year.

But this time everything is different: a winter dream instead of a summer fairy tale.

The public viewing takes place with mulled wine in hand, while the advent wreath announces the upcoming Christmas celebrations.

But the mood for the World Cup doesn't really want to arise: many people are boycotting the tournament entirely because of the human rights situation in Qatar.

And the scandal surrounding the "One Love" bandage that Manuel Neuer should have worn does not paint a good picture of the World Cup.

And that has consequences for the DFB.

With Rewe, the first partner these days has already drawn the first conclusions and is letting its sponsorship rest.

The contract with the DFB, which expires at the end of the year, should not be extended without it.

At Volkswagen - the association's mobility partner since 2019 - they also have a clear opinion on the events.

Volkswagen will remain a sponsor of the DFB in the future.

"From our point of view, FIFA's behavior is unacceptable," said Gerd Voss, Head of the Volkswagen Football Center

'We live diversity!'

is one of the seven Volkswagen Group principles.

In our football activities in particular, we have been expressing this attitude for many years with the aim of initiating social change.”

For example, VfL Wolfsburg, which is also sponsored by VW, was the first professional club in Germany to sport a rainbow armband in 2017.

"We would have welcomed it if the European associations had set such a visible sign of diversity at this tournament.

The discussions and reactions show that something fundamental needs to change in world football!” emphasized Voss.

Volkswagen is loyal to the DFB - only Telekom announces talks

Unlike Rewe, Volkswagen does not want to stop sponsoring the DFB.

"For us, the partnership with the DFB not only includes the men's national team, but all of German football, e.g.

B. the women's national team and especially youth and amateur football," said the group when asked by BuzzFeed News.

In addition, VW does not appear as a sponsor of the World Cup or FIFA.

The teams at the tournament in Qatar will be chauffeured in Hyundai buses.

In 1974, Germany was still traveling in a Mercedes bus.

Volkswagen also refers to "many good developments" at the association.

They want to build on this and “continue to work together with the DFB on positive changes in football overall in the future.” The other partners of the DFB have also made a clear commitment to their partnership with the association, as reported by BuzzFeed News.

According to the Spiegel, only Telekom announced that it would seek a conversation.
