This Friday, the city of Wolfratshausen will put a central tourist information office into operation.

A measure to increase the number of tourists.

Wolfratshausen – The general renovation and expansion of the municipal building at Untermarkt 10 is almost complete.

As reported, the trial operation of the newly created, central tourist information center on the ground floor of the building will start this Friday.

City Councilor Rudi Seibt (Greens) had a few questions on this subject – he received the answers at the most recent City Council meeting from City Hall Chief Klaus Heilinglechner (Citizens' Association).

Seibt was primarily interested in whether there was a concept for the future distribution of tasks between the town hall information (citizens' office) and tourist information.

The mayor announced: In the new tourist information on the Untermarkt, "advice on leisure and tourism offers in Wolfratshausen takes place, as well as the sale of Munich tickets, the sale of souvenirs and the sale of museum tickets and items." In addition, the supervision of the Wolfratshausen Museum, which will open in early 2023, and the administration of the new multifunctional room at Untermarkt 10 (Wallner-Bockhorni-Kabinett) would be organized "via the counter" in the tourist information office.

"The citizen-related services remain in the citizens' office," says the head of the town hall.

Will city councilors simulate tourists during the trial run?

"Of course not," Heilinglechner replied to Seibt's question as to whether the city councilors would simulate tourists during the trial run.

The mayor explained: "The tourist information will start on Friday, November 25th, with the public trial operation.

Until the planned opening of the museum on February 10, the staffing of the counter in the tourist information will be completed and all processes will be optimized.”

Result of a study: 40,000 overnight stays per year in Wolfratshausen

Last but not least, the Green City Councilor wanted to know how many tourists had been "served" in the Citizens' Office so far.

When answering, Heilinglechner referred to an “internal case number survey”.

According to this, 280 written inquiries were processed up to and including November 7th this year.

"In addition, there are usually between 15 to 20 telephone consultations and 15 to 20 personal consultations every day in summer." In winter there are a handful of telephone and personal consultations per day.

Heilinglechner referred to the study by the German Economic Institute for Tourism (dwif) from 2019 - before the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

This study shows that Wolfratshausen has around 700,000 day visitors and around 40,000 overnight stays each year.

According to dwif, tourists spent an average of 29.60 euros in Loisachstadt in 2019.

Heilinglechner: "Day visitors alone contributed 17.5 million euros to the local economy in 2019."

The mayor assumes that the importance of day tourism will increase as a result of the pandemic.

The central contact point in the old town, the tourist information, is a measure "to bind this purchasing power to Wolfratshausen".
