Doctor Khaled Al-Aouf supplemented the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery in Syria with a new patent, which he obtained by inventing a device to self-construct the front of the lower jaw and chin, unilaterally and bilaterally, with a circular motion.
Regarding the mechanism of the device, Dr. Al-Aouf, a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, explained to SANA that the device, which is made of titanium, allows the construction of the entire lower jaw and chin bone, and builds its soft tissues in case it is lost, without the need for bone grafts or artificial restorative materials.
The device, which took about seven years to complete and follow-up on testing, according to Dr. Auf, builds the bone by itself for the front of the lower jaw and chin in a circular manner. As a result of traumatic injuries and medical accidents, as well as war injuries and even as plastic surgery.
The device is installed inside the mouth and is removed when the bone building is completed, as the period for this ranges from two to four weeks, according to Dr. Al-Awf, who indicated that the device achieved success rates that reached 100 percent when it was applied to a number of patients, and that this new device is the first of its kind. Locally and even globally, because it builds bone in a circular way, and it is considered a global precedent, and it was contacted to register it on behalf of Syria through the European office of the International Intellectual Property Organization “WIPO”.
Dr. Al-Awf pointed out that the new device replaces the traditional treatment that relies on the use of movable or manufactured bone grafts, which carried high rates of failure in some cases.
The new innovation is added to several patents won by Al-Aouf, including in 2011 the Best Inventor Award from the WIPO International Organization for his invention of a method and device for surgical straightening of the upper jaw. Self, and in 2018 he obtained a patent for a method and device for self-construction of the two-sided mandibular bone.
In 2019, Dr. Al-Aouf also registered a patent for his invention of a technique and device for building the entire body of the lower jaw without the need for allografts or autologous grafts.
