Accident on the A96: Man crashes into a tree near Stetten

A 48-year-old crashed into a tree on Friday morning due to an accident on the A96.

Stetten – A serious traffic accident occurred on the A96 between Stetten and Erkheim early on Friday morning.
A 48-year-old came off the road, crashed into a tree and was seriously injured.
When the 48-year-old from Unterallgäu left the Autobahn to the right with his Peugeot, he drove up an embankment and crashed into a tree there.
His car then overturned several times, flew over the right-hand crash barrier back onto the hard shoulder and stayed there on the roof.
As if by a miracle, the man from Lower Allgäu was able to free himself from the wrecked vehicle.
First aiders immediately dialed the emergency number and took care of the first aid.
The 48-year-old was seriously injured and then taken to the hospital, so the police have not yet been able to question him about the accident.
The cause of the accident is therefore still unclear, explains the Memmingen motorway police.
Because of the large debris field, the Erkheim and Schlegelsberg fire brigades were called in to help secure and clean the roadway.
The totally damaged Peugeot (damage around 5,000 euros) was towed away.
The Autobahn had to be completely closed for almost an hour this morning.
Traffic in the left lane was then diverted past the scene of the accident.
The damage to the crash barrier and signs was provisionally estimated at around 1,500 euros.
