Asian and European cities rank among the best in terms of public transport systems, according to a new global transport study published by the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley).

Among 60 cities around the world, Hong Kong's public transport system is ranked first in the world.

According to the Hong Kong China News Agency, the study evaluated the public transportation systems of 60 cities around the world, and compared factors such as distance, affordability, operating hours, congestion levels and arrival time of public transportation in each city.

Of the 60 cities assessed, Asian and European cities ranked highest, while Middle Eastern and African cities ranked lowest.

Hong Kong ranks first in the global public transport index, with an index close to 80.

The global average is 51.7.

The index measures how well cities maintain their public transport networks and how commuters use them.

The report pointed out that Hong Kong's public transport system has low fares, high station density and can handle a large population.

The design of the transfer station is nearly seamless, which is convenient for passengers to transfer.

Hong Kong focuses on the development of public transport and integrates the railway system into the urban infrastructure. The station design is conducive to sustainable economic and environmental development.

The report also pointed out that there is still room for improvement in Hong Kong, including that the railway system does not operate 24 hours a day, the lack of smartphone applications, and the navigation of passengers to choose various modes of transportation.
