Disgrace and frivolity: the murder of Yuri Volkov should prevent sleep from every parent in Israel Israel today

Life in Israel is complex - this is not a new thing:

only last Wednesday we woke up to the sad reality with another attack that claimed the life of the late 16-year-old Aryeh Shchoupek, the same night a tragedy happened in Holon in which Yuri Volkov was murdered just because he dared to wake up a motorcyclist who almost ran him over for his wild driving - the commonality of the two tragic events is that they are two events of unnecessary bloodshed that claimed the lives of innocent people.

Every Hebrew mother will know that her sons are not protected, at home and abroad.

The documentation of the murder was shocking, at first the police reported that it was a fight that led to a stabbing, but the documentation itself shows how easy it was for the sick killer to take Volkov's life in a matter of seconds.

Lena Volkov's wife crossed the road after taking a picture of the rioting motorcycle, according to her the motorcyclist turned to her and demanded that she delete the photos, Lena agreed and asked him to continue on his way, Volkov saw the biker's threatening drive towards his wife and asked him to "move on man, everything is fine" and within a number Seconds, the motorcyclist pulled out a sharp object and stuck it in Volkov's heart, so within a few moments, another person disappeared from the world.

The above story can teach us what the State of Israel has become, about the ease with which today it is possible to end a person's life. Because of the "simplicity" and "light-mindedness" that went through the mind of the murderer, it is possible to understand his danger. There is no doubt that this is another unnecessary murder. The region defined the horrific murder in a sign they planted at the intersection where he was murdered simply: "A man was murdered here only because he was at the wrong time, in the wrong place, in front of the wrong person."

This morning in court, the police charged the main suspect with reckless homicide - and not under aggravating circumstances, after this sparked outrage among the public, the police issued a clarification that the demand for arrest is for the crime of murder and not reckless homicide.

In order to understand what we are talking about, we will specify that in 2019 the Penal Law was changed regarding the offenses of manslaughter.

The crime of careless death is given to the person who causes the death of a person carelessly and his punishment is twelve years imprisonment.

The crime of murder is given to the person who causes the death of a person with intent or indifference and is sentenced to life imprisonment, aggravated murder is given if the murder is committed in one of 11 different circumstances including if the act is done with special cruelty, or with physical or mental abuse of the victim, i.e. abuse of the body, dismemberment and more.

But this is subject to the judge's interpretation, as there are judges who may decide that a direct stab in the heart is an act done with special cruelty.

A story similar to the murder of Yuri Volkov happened in 2012, Gadi Wichman was murdered in Beer Sheva in one of the affairs that shocked the country.

Wichman went down to warn a group of boys who were making noise in his neighborhood, one of the boys, Aden Ohion, pulled out a knife and stabbed Gadi Wichman in the heart.

Ohion was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

For them to see and be seen

The police and the court must severely punish the abominable murderer so that they will be seen and be seen, just like a security prisoner or the murderer of a prime minister.

This murder must lead the agenda and have a precedential punishment that will deter every citizen, that will reduce the number of people who dare to leave the house with a knife in their pocket.

That way, we might be able to assure every parent in the country that their children will live in peace.

Because it is simply not understood - how a man who fulfilled his civic duty found himself lifeless within a few minutes, just as it is not understood how a 16-year-old boy who went out to pray found his death while waiting for the bus.

This unnecessary bloodshed must stop and it will stop only with ruthless punishment, the hardest hand that can be guaranteed.

Every viewing of the documentation and crime incident that takes place every day raises the difficult question: Is this what we have become as a nation?
