More and more people are entering the West illegally via the Russian border.
The Federal Police reports that more and more refugees are being picked up at the German border.
This includes students from Africa and the Near and Middle East.
Munich - "In total, the federal police have already recorded almost 8,000 migrants who use the route via Russia this year," writes
Der Spiegel
.
The magazine reports from a confidential document that shows that in addition to people with freshly issued Russian visas, more and more people who have previously stayed in Russia for a longer period of time are being picked up.
These include students from Africa, the Middle East and migrant workers from Central Asia.
The number of people registered has risen steadily from 320 people in May this year to 1200 people registered in September and 1500 people in October.
As the report goes on to say, global sanctions mechanisms against Russia also result in "foreign students having trouble transferring funds to Russia for subsistence."
Migrants enter via Russia: Initial applications for asylum are increasing - especially in three federal states
Federal Police President Dieter Romann speaks of a total of 76,000 unauthorized entries to Germany.
The number of asylum seekers is also increasing accordingly.
Because only those who enter the country - without permission - can apply for asylum at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) in Germany.
According to official figures from the BAMF, around 160,000 people in Germany have applied for asylum for the first time this year.
Compared to the previous year, the number of initial applications had risen by almost 39 percent.
Migration experts have already warned of a critical situation, according to
Der Spiegel
in its report.
In some federal states there was no accommodation for the applicants.
Entry route of refugees
People interviewed by the federal police, most of whom come from the Arab region, themselves often state that they first entered Russia by plane.
Most of them then reach the European Union via Belarus.

In the current year 2022,
North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria
and
Baden-Württemberg
have received the most asylum applications.
Most initial applications have already been made in these federal states in the last three years.
They have to accept asylum seekers according to the so-called Königstein key.
It regulates the distribution of applicants to the individual federal states.
According to BAMF, almost 32,500 initial applications were received in North Rhine-Westphalia in the current year, around 20,400 in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg is just behind with 18,700 applications.
A situation report from the beginning of this year shows that many people are waiting for an asylum decision, every tenth application was made for a child born in Germany under the age of one.

Migrants enter via Russia: Germany wants to create the possibility for multiple citizenships
Meanwhile, politicians in this country are discussing a new naturalization law.
The German passport should be easier to get in the future.
Instead of eight years, as is currently the case, people should be able to obtain citizenship after five years of residence in Germany.
In the case of "special integration achievements", this should even be possible after three years.
And children of foreign parents who were born in Germany should automatically become Germans if one parent has already had “his lawful habitual residence” in Germany for five years.
So far, this has only been the case after eight years.
At the same time, holding multiple citizenships should become much easier with the reform.
In this way, many beneficiaries should be encouraged to apply for German citizenship.
