While waiting for easyJet flight 4065 to Nice, Bruno Retailleau, candidate for the presidency of the Republicans, feels the fatigue of a breathless campaign.
Returning from Reims in the night, he is heading Thursday for Le Cannet, in the Alpes-Maritimes, towards the lands of his first competitor, Éric Ciotti.
With a hundred public meetings already in hand, the senator from Vendée smiles when asked how many LR members he hopes to convince here, where his rival has garnered nearly 9,000 cards.
“If I reach one hundred and fifty…”
, concedes Bruno Retailleau.
“But I am a fighter!
And when I campaign, I leave nothing to chance, because every voice counts,”
he hastens to add.
More optimistic, Senator Stéphane Le Rudulier, who accompanies him, measures the establishment of competition but refers to the participation rate of the last congress.
“There were 76% of voters in the first round the last time”,
