Due to the pandemic, there was no Christmas market in Kochel for two years.

There will be a premiere for this at the market next Sunday, November 27th: the first Kochler "Children's Advent" with a separate area for children and families.

Kochel am See – A tent where fairy tales and stories are read and where Santa Claus stops by.

Various handicraft activities for the young visitors.

Or a living nativity scene in which children spend the whole day depicting the birth of Jesus in the stable in Bethlehem: These are some of the offerings that families can look forward to at the first Kochler "Children's Advent".

"The idea for this has been around for a long time," remembers Sabine Eberl, chairwoman of the support association of the Franz-Marc elementary school in Kochel, who is in charge of organizing the "Children's Advent" - of course with the support of other clubs and organizations in Kochel, for example the Montessori -Children's home, the children's and young people's association and committed parents from the community kindergarten.

"It's a collaborative project," emphasizes Eberl.

The idea has been around for a long time

The idea for this came from former members of the school development association.

In order to put them into practice, the school support association had already applied for funds from the donation pot of the “Die Kochler” association before the pandemic, says Eberl.

This association organizes the Christmas market every year and always donates the proceeds to local associations and institutions that make special purchases or – as in the case of the school development association – want to implement a special idea.

At that time, her association received 1,600 euros from the "Kochlern" in order to be able to set up the first "Children's Advent" and buy necessary things, including a tent or the necessary decorations.

All of that is offered

The "Children's Advent" had to wait two years for its premiere due to the pandemic.

This year the time has finally come, and many volunteers have been planning the project for weeks.

The "Children's Advent" will take place as part of the Christmas market next Sunday, November 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. - but in a specially prepared area behind the Gasthaus Post, says Eberl.

In this somewhat "protected area" from the rest of the hustle and bustle, the tent is set up on an open space.

Various stands of the participating organizations will be grouped around it, including the children and youth development association, which, according to Claudia Vorwerk, will be making winding stars, little trees made of pipe cleaners and industrial ribbons with the little visitors between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

According to Carla Albers, there will be apple punch and various soups at the Montessori children's home stand, and Christmas popcorn will also be available for the first time.

The Montessori children's home is also responsible for the program in the tent.

Here, from twelve o'clock, wintry and Christmas stories are read, Albers reveals.

The stories are colorful and suitable for children from the age of two.

The exact program with times and age information will be posted.

The manager of the children's home thinks it's great that the "Children's Advent" can finally take place.

"Finally there is a place for children at the Kochler Christkindlmarkt." What is particularly nice about the project is that it is organized jointly by so many clubs.

Santa Claus is coming too

As Franz Linner, chairman of “Die Kochler” reveals, Santa Claus will also be visiting the Christmas market from 2 p.m. – by horse-drawn carriage if the weather is nice.

And the holy man will also stop by in the tent.

According to Linner, 38 stalls with culinary delicacies, handicrafts or flower arrangements will be set up in the narrow streets behind the "Post" and on Schmied-von-Kochel-Platz for the Kochler Christmas market.

Despite the energy crisis, there is no need to save on Christmas lights.

Both the Christmas tree and the lighting on the stands are LED.

According to Linner, it is already clear who will get the proceeds from this year's market: the drummers will get half of it to equip their offspring.

The other half goes to the Kochler water rescue service for the construction of their boat hut.

The Kochler Christkindlmarkt takes place on Sunday, November 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The "Children's Advent" area is behind the Gasthof Post.

The tent cannot be pitched in rain or strong winds.

The living nativity scene will also only take place in dry weather.
