Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, announced that his country is discussing with the International Atomic Energy Agency the issue of creating international monitoring of compliance with agreements on establishing a safe zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
Ulyanov said in an interview with Sputnik: “It is necessary to find international monitoring of compliance with agreements on establishing a protection zone for physical and nuclear safety around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant,” noting that Moscow is discussing this issue with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Ulyanov stressed the need for such monitoring to be effective, otherwise the agreements will become a dead letter.
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov confirmed yesterday that his country is making every effort to establish a safe zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant without delay.
