Politicians keep receiving hate messages and threats. An insult to the Foreign Minister by e-mail now has consequences for a man from Zurich.

A 39-year-old man has been convicted in Zurich for insulting Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) by email.

The district court judge on Friday upheld the lower court's decision against which the man had appealed.

The convict has to pay a fine of 1,800 francs (about 1,800 euros) and court costs, as the spokesman for the district court said.

The man had insulted Baerbock in an e-mail last year with the sender "papierlischwizer".

"Someone should dismember you," it said, among other things.

Baerbock filed a complaint and the man was located with the help of the Swiss investigative authorities.

According to the newspaper "20 Minuten", the native Russian tried to defend himself by saying that Baerbock's policy discredited Russia, which hurt his honor.

The judge rejected this.

Rather, Baerbock was attacked in their honor.

According to the newspaper, the man is a student in Zurich and receives support for psychological problems.

Again and again women and men are victims of hostilities in public.

It is difficult to take action against this because each offense must be reported and reported individually.

Baerbock's party colleague Renate Künast therefore launched a movement against hate speech years ago.

Together with internet activists and women's rights activists, they are turning cross-party »against digital violence«.
