The security service in the country published a statement according to which three members of a Ukrainian "sabotage squad" were shot to death in the city of Voronezh • Now investigative websites claim that it is a group of young people who were playing a role-playing game

Fear of a horrifying incident of mistaken identity in Russia: According to reports in media outlets affiliated with the country's opposition, three young men were killed by security force fire after playing a role-playing game with "airsoft" guns in the city of Voronezh in southern Russia.

The story, which received extensive coverage in the media in Russia, took place on Tuesday and was revealed when the Russian security services announced that they eliminated a "Ukrainian terrorist and sabotage unit" that was training to carry out an attack on Russian territory.

According to the publication, the three dead, citizens of Russia, planned to hit a "sensitive target" in the country's territory and a unit badge with a Ukrainian flag on it was displayed alongside a statement by one of the dead online condemning the invasion of Ukraine.

However, publications that have appeared in the two days that have passed since the incident illuminate the occurrence in a completely different light.

Surfers revealed that the tag presented by Russia is actually related to the role-playing game "Stalker", based on a computer game whose plot takes place after the Chernobyl disaster.

In addition, it was revealed that the "weapons" with which the young men were armed were actually "airsoft" rifles.

A search of the young people's social network accounts revealed that they regularly play the role-playing game in question.

FSB killed strike ball players in Voronezh who played for Volia in the STALKER game because they saw similar symbolism on the Maidan protesters.

The journalist said, "It's clear who was their employer."

According to the opposition-affiliated newspaper "Moscow times", one of the dead was Vladimir Kutovsky, a resident of Voronezh and an airsoft enthusiast.

"Vladimir was a young man with a lot of plans for life. He was an ordinary technician, a working man. He was a supporter of Navalny and identified with the opposition," a friend of the deceased told the newspaper.

While the authorities in Russia adhere to the official version of the events, the users of the country's social networks, including those who support the regime, know that it was apparently a horrific accident.

"Important advice for all those who have geeky hobbies in a country at war. Do not watch trains or planes, do not play role-playing games with weapons and be careful around military bases," wrote one of the surfers on the Russian social network VK.
