The leaders of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, during their summit in the Armenian capital Yerevan today, reached an agreement on providing the peacekeeping forces of the organization with modern weapons and equipment in the coming years.
Sputnik reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is participating in the summit, expressed his support for this idea, while Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that his country, as head of the organization, intends to pay special attention to strengthening cooperation between defense institutions to produce modern types of weapons.
Lukashenko said: At the same time, the conflict in Ukraine shows that we should not forget our old weapons, including the Grad, Smerch, Uragan systems and others, which are powerful weapons.
Yesterday, the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which includes Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, began in Yerevan, where the summit discussed a wide range of political, defense and security issues that concern their countries.
