The protest against the Iranian regime also reached the World Cup, when the national team's players refused to sing the national anthem in their first World Cup game against England in the last two.
Today (Friday), before the match against Wales, the Iranians actually sang the national anthem.
However, as in the game in England, this time too the tune was accompanied by boos from the Iranian fans in the stadium in Qatar.
During the anthem, a number of fans of the national team were photographed, struggling to hide their emotions and crying.
In addition, a female fan was recorded in the stands wearing a shirt with the name "Amini", in memory of the young woman from Sa Amini who died when she was arrested for not wearing a hijab properly.
Fans are having a hard time holding back the tears
As you may remember, the hijab protest that has agitated Iran in recent months and brought hundreds of thousands to the streets demanding the liberation of the people from the dark rule of the Revolutionary Guards also swept away the country's former senior footballers, including Ali Dai and Ali Karimi, who openly opposed the Ayatollahs.
Just yesterday it was announced that the former national team player Wariya Ghafouri was arrested in the country after he condemned the repression of the protesters.
In the past month, several of Iran's national teams in the various fields also joined the protest - the basketball and handball teams who refused to sing the national anthem before their games, and the beach soccer team whose players celebrated scoring goals with a hair cutting movement - one of the symbols of the protest.
