Yao Zhaocong, Deputy Director of Airport Operations of the AA, said today that the third runway has been allocated as the New Taipei runway since July 8, and trial operation has begun. The total length is 3,800 meters and the width is 60 meters, which meets international standards.

At present, a temporary traffic control tower is used to handle flight movements, and it will be relocated to this place after the completion of the new tower in 2024.

Yao pointed out that the trial run of the third-runner has been "very smooth" since its trial operation in July, and it has served about 11,000 flights. With the adjustment of immigration measures, the number of flights has increased. In November, an average of more than 140 flights have landed using the third-runner every day.

He pointed out that at the beginning of the operation, it may only operate for a few hours a day, but now it has gradually increased to a long-term operation of about 10 hours a day. After gradually getting familiar with the operation, the three runs will be fully activated.

North runway temporarily closed to be reconfigured as middle runway

In response to the opening of the third runway and becoming the new north runway, the original north runway was temporarily closed for reconfiguration and became the middle runway. Currently, the airport is using the new north runway and the south runway, and continues to operate with a dual-runway system.

The three-runway system project also includes the expansion of the No. 2 Passenger Terminal Building, the construction of the new T2 Passenger Concourse, the People Mover System and the Baggage Handling System, etc. The AA aims to complete the entire project in 2024 as scheduled.
