The dangerous intersection will be opened to traffic on Friday afternoon with intelligent traffic lights.

Bergkirchen - In the end it went faster than expected: The new traffic light at the Indersdorfer Gabel went into operation on Friday afternoon - equipped with an intelligent system.

According to a traffic report by the Freising State Building Authority, the traffic light was recommended as the best way to reduce the risk of accidents as quickly as possible and to ensure the efficiency of the intersection.

During an on-site visit on Friday morning, representatives of the building authority explained the special features of the traffic light.

The new traffic light at the Indersdorfer Gabel will be in operation 24 hours a day - "the safety aspect is paramount," explained Thomas Jakob, press spokesman for the state building authority.

For years, the intersection of state roads 2047 and 2050 was a focal point of accidents in police traffic statistics.

The police hope that these times will be a thing of the past, according to Sabine Trebes from the police station in Dachau.

Jakob explained the intelligent switching of the traffic lights as follows: The traffic on state road 2047 between Dachau and Schwabhausen has permanent green – with a speed limit of 60 km/h.

If someone wants to turn left onto the 2050, the contact loop on the floor of the traffic light reports: "Ten cars want to turn left here." Drivers coming from Dachau, including those turning right, are given red, those turning left green, and straight-ahead traffic continues in the direction of Dachau.

Road users coming from Assenhauser Berg always have red, but get green when they come to the traffic light: Here, too, the contact loop of the traffic light reports a signal.

The green phase lasts a maximum of 30 seconds, "but we'll get something out of it," says Jakob.

Whoever approaches the red traffic light

Thanks to the intelligent program, I have to wait a maximum of 40 to 50 seconds - so that the flow of traffic is maintained even during rush hour.

The circuit stays in place for half a year, "then we'll see if the programming is right".

According to Jakob, the fact that the traffic light is in operation 24 hours a day is due to the safety aspect.

"Safety is more important than energy saving".

The LED traffic light is economical anyway.

Claudia Stier from the district office did not want to confirm whether the traffic light construction means that the topic of roundabouts is off the table.

"In the current traffic situation, the traffic light is the most efficient model." It is not known how traffic will change in the future and whether a roundabout would be the better solution.

In any case, Bergkirchen's mayor Robert Axtner is now "rejoiced that the surreptitious traffic over the small towns has stopped".

This joy is certainly shared by many local residents.

And drivers are happy to be able to drive over the Indersdorfer Gabel again without detours - and safer than ever before.
