Viewer rebellion on ZDF: Michelle Hunziker is supposed to moderate "Wetten, dass ..?"

10.09 million people watched "Wetten, dass..?" with Thomas Gottschalk on TV.
Despite the outstanding ratings, a discussion about the moderator flared up on social media.
Some viewers are asking ZDF to leave the show to Michelle Hunziker.
Mainz – The fact that Thomas Gottschalk, at the age of 72, also dominates the young target group of 14 to 49-year-old TV viewers proves the undeniable entertainer qualities of the TV dinosaur, who moderated his first show "Wetten, dass..?" on February 14, 1982 .

TV critics like the industry magazine dwdl.de always find a hair in the soup.
"Compared to the previous year, the show dropped a few feathers," writes author Manuel Weis in the ratings report, alluding to the record ratings of the last issue: Gottschalk recently reached almost 14 million television viewers.

After the renewed "Wetten, dass" episode from Friedrichshafen, not only the industry services were critical of the moderation by Thomas Gottschalk, who again led through the evening alongside sidekick Michelle Hunziker (45).

"Great show with many moments of shame" writes the "Schwarzwälder Bote".
The authors of blick.ch found the "Wetten, dass ..?" episode even worse: "Thomas Gottschalk annoys the audience."
"Wetten...dass?" falls through mercilessly with ZDF viewers: "Fallen out of time"
In Germany, too, the ZDF cult show could not meet the expectations of many viewers.
Show legend Thomas Gottschalk in particular was heavily criticized for his performance and his sayings.
ZDF viewers are discussing it on social media.
The show was "out of date," says a user on Twitter.
"I feel the urge to apologize to John Malkovich for introducing him to the biggest German TV show," says another, horrified.
"The only thing that can still save this show is that someone sticks to Gottschalk and throws soup at him."

While Gottschalk is approached unusually sharply, his co-moderator comes into focus: For many ZDF viewers, the always smiling Michelle Hunziker shone much more than the curly head with the controversial sayings.
Some Twitter users are even calling for Gottschalk to be exchanged for Hunziker.
"She has everything in view and under control, while Gottschalk, who is just reactionary and completely wrong (...) somehow has to slow down."

Despite the wishes of some ZDF viewers, an exchange of moderators for "Wetten, dass...?" is unthinkable.
The Mainz station will also start producing the show in 2023 with Thomas Gottschalk.
The show is a joint production in cooperation with ORF and SRF and will be broadcast completely barrier-free (live subtitling, audio description and with sign language) for the first time.
In the quota duel, "Schlager oder nixxx" had to admit defeat on Saturday evening.
Florian Silbereisen's show had no chance against "Wetten, dass?"
Even Thomas Gottschalk could not resist a dig at his colleague.
