(CNN) --

Ford announced another SUV recall for some 520,000 Ford Escape and Bronco Sport model vehicles in the United States.

Possible cracks in vehicles' fuel lines could start fires under the hood of some cars, according to Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A total of 634,000 SUVs will be recalled globally for this issue, the company said.

Specifically, the fuel injector may crack on some 2022-2023 Escape and 2021-2023 Bronco Sports trucks equipped with the 1.5L 3-cylinder turbocharged engine.

This could allow fuel, or fuel vapor, to seep onto hot parts of the vehicle and start a fire.

Ford has not suggested that owners stop driving their vehicles.

The company indicated that it expects the issue to occur in only a very small percentage of trucks.

He also noted that he is aware of 20 fires that appear to be related to this new problem.

Some of these same SUVs were included in a previous recall that was also linked to a possibility of fire.

That measure, which was announced in March, was related to a possible leak that could allow oil to reach parts of the vehicle where it could catch fire.

Most of the trucks from that previous recall already have the necessary modifications to address the problem, according to the company.

However, that does not mean that they are protected from the risk related to the most recent recall.

For the overhaul, Ford dealers will install a software update that will detect a possible cracked injector.

If a crack in the injector is identified, a warning light will appear on the vehicle's dash and engine power will be reduced.

This will allow the driver to find a safe place to stop and call for service, Ford said.

Ford dealers will also install a tube that will drain the leaked fuel to the ground and away from the hot surfaces of the car.

The necessary work will be performed at no cost to truck owners.

Ford said it is coordinating efforts for dealers to offer free pickup and delivery of vehicles for necessary repair work.

Owners can also bring their vehicles to dealerships.

The Ford Bronco Sport shares much of its engineering with the Ford Escape.

It is not related to the Ford Bronco, an SUV that competes with the Jeep Wrangler.
