The new tourist information office has opened in Wolfratshausen.

An exclusive collector's item awaits fans of the TV series "Hubert without Staller".

Wolfratshausen – flanked by the Spatzen Rickshaw twins Leonie and Sarah Brandt, Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner opened the new tourist information center in the building at Untermarkt 10 on Friday at exactly 10:40 a.m.

"It has become a gem," says Heilinglechner, looking at the big picture, the completely renovated property.

For the head of the town hall, the end of the two-year construction work marks “the start of the planned upgrading of the old town”.

For a long time, the city neglected its property at Untermarkt 10.

"It didn't have the character that an urban property should have," the mayor said in retrospect on Friday.

The listed building became an eyesore.

The proposal to at least give the house a coat of paint for sale and then install a community shop in it fell through in 2015. Controversial political debates followed.

Should the building be left to a private investor?

Or should the municipality upgrade and rent it out itself?

The end of the story: The service provider GmbH of the municipal housing association (StäWo) was commissioned to refurbish and expand the property in 2018.

The municipality invested around 4.5 million euros in the project, 1.7 million euros of which came from the government of Upper Bavaria, keyword urban development funding.

Now it's "a key property" for the head of the town hall.

City manager: Untermarkt 10 should become “a lively meeting place for citizens and guests”

Apart from a rented shop on the ground floor, the building is used by the city.

The newly designed Museum Wolfratshausen will open in February next year, and the tourist information has been in trial operation since Friday.

The entire ensemble, according to city manager Dr.

Stefan Werner, should develop "into a lively meeting place for citizens and guests".

"An important meeting place," added Heilinglechner.

"Hubert without Staller" - New tourist information in Wolfratshausen

The municipal tourism manager Gisela Gleißl invested a lot of energy and passion in the project.

Attention to detail is evident.

An example: The original coffee machine from the ARD early evening series “Hubert without Staller”, which is being produced in the rafting town, is not the only decoration for the tourist information.

But: Among other things, a telescope comes from the estate of Ludwig Graßler, the inventor of the long-distance hiking route from Munich to Venice.

The Wolfratshauser by choice, Graßler, died in 2019 at the age of 94.

"He always wanted to be immortal," said his nephew Roland Graßler on Friday with a wink.

His uncle "up there" will presumably be very pleased that some personal items in the tourist information will outlast the time after his death.

The history of a monument

Inside the municipal building, the history of the “Untermarkt 10 architectural monument” is documented on a wall: “The house at Untermarkt 10 has a long history.

From the middle of the 18th century it was probably the seat of the Wolfratshausen district court as a 'nursing castle'.

What is certain is that the building was rebuilt in 1806 after being destroyed by fire.

It was also the seat of the district court and from 1879 to 1962 the district court of Wolfratshausen.

In today's museum rooms on the first floor there was once the apartment of the provincial judge.

Between 1968 and 1975 the house served as a school.

Since 1977 it has housed the town's local history museum.

After a general renovation from 2020, Untermarkt 10 was brought back to life with the redesigned 'Museum Wolfratshausen', the tourist information and a shop.”

Wolfratshausen: "Tourism has found a home"

"Tourism has found a home," said Gleißl, visibly pleased.

A lot of what makes the international rafting town attractive for guests has "gone into oblivion" in the past.

Now the offer can be marketed centrally.

Speaking of which: Souvenirs are sold in the Tourist Info so that tourists can remember Loisachstadt for a long time.

There are healthy treats from the herbal teachers, Flößersalz and high-proof Flößergeist as well as the Wolfratshauser hidden object coloring book for children.

Wolfratshausen: Exclusive coffee mug with the "Hubert without Staller" logo

A unique item awaits the fans of "Hubert without Staller": In "tough negotiations", according to Gleißl, it was possible to convince the copyright holders to allow the production of a reusable coffee mug with the logo of the TV show.

The result is a collector's item "that only exists in Wolfratshausen," said the tourism manager.

Also hot off the press is the new information brochure “Wolfratshausen – mighty in the flow”, which is available in the tourist information office.

Mayor Heilinglechner has already taken a look ahead: The new Wolfratshausen Museum (the rooms were strictly closed on Friday: "No entry!"), he says, will open its doors on February 10th.

"It's going to be an amazing museum," enthused the mayor.

"A museum we can be proud of in the future." (cce)
