13 injured in major fire in waste sorting plant - damage is in the millions

A major fire in a waste sorting plant on the premises of Umwelt Wurzer in Eitting caused millions in damage on Friday morning.
13 employees were slightly injured during the first extinguishing work, nine had to be hospitalized.
Eitting – You contracted smoke inhalation.
Well over 100 fire brigades from the districts of Erding and Freising, several rescue organizations and the police were on duty.

According to the fire department, the fire broke out around 8:15 a.m. in a conveyor system in a hall.
The flames quickly spread down the conveyor belt and ate into a large drum.
"The external extinguishing work turned out to be easy," reports Manfred Schreiber from the Erding District Fire Inspectorate in our newspaper.
"But when the drum was opened, the fire found oxygen again and thus nourishment," continued Schreiber.
There were not only high flames, but also thick black smoke.
"On the other hand, we're in with maximum strength," says the district fire chief.
According to Schreiber, what made the job more difficult was that the conveyor belt and drum are about 15 meters above the ground.
The firefighters used turntable ladders and gained access to the scene of the fire via the hall.
At least: The sprinkler system went on over the complex system of conveyor belts.
The hall floor was partially covered knee-deep with extinguishing foam.

The fire was also a logistical challenge, with breathing apparatus wearers constantly having to be alerted to the surrounding fire brigade.
Disposal trucks were diverted.
The disaster protection of the district of Erding with district fire officer Willi Vogel and his designated successor Florian Pleiner was also on site, as well as the support groups for the regional operations management of the Altenerding fire brigade and the Bavarian Red Cross.
ADAC and police helicopters also circled over the scene.
The hall is no longer usable for the time being.
Police and Kripo Erding have started the investigation.
