Homs, SANA- The Directorate of Homs Culture, in cooperation with the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, organized a historical trip, as part of the activities of the Third Days

The Directorate of Homs Culture, in cooperation with the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, organized a historical trip, as part of the activities of the Syrian Culture Days, targeting 30 young people and adolescents to the archaeological hill of Mushrifah to visit the Kingdom of Qatana, and to learn about the most important archaeological discoveries in it.

Saba Wassouf, the head of the children and adolescents department in the culture of Homs, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that two age groups were merged during the trip, the first for the volunteer youth team affiliated with the directorate, and the second for students from the integrated education project in the category of adolescents from the temporary residence center in Deir Baalbeh, in order to see and get acquainted. On our historical monuments in a realistic manner, away from the teaching stereotypes, and in a way that touches the greatness of the urban heritage and the necessity of linking it to the present and the future, by preserving it and transmitting it between generations.

During the trip, the head of the Excavation Division of the Department of Antiquities of Homs, Therese Leon, reviewed the start of the excavation work in the place, and the excavation tools that were used, noting the historical importance of the Qatna Kingdom and the steadfastness of its mud buildings for 5,000 years, and the defensive walls to protect the kingdom and the royal palace that includes the holy well and the royal cemetery, stressing the importance of preserving the hills. Antiquities, and the movable and immovable effects it contains.

The scientific supervisor of the site of the Kingdom of Qatana, Jawad Akla, gave an explanation to young people and adolescents about the science of archaeological levels dating back to each era, and about the site of the Kingdom of Qatna, which sits on an area of ​​approximately 1100 dunums, and dates back to the second millennium BC, and the royal palace consisting of 82 rooms, and the building The administrative site attached to the palace, and the royal tombs in which 2,000 artifacts of pottery, marble, gold, precious stones and Egyptian granite were found, in addition to the discovery of mining and pottery-making facilities.

Today’s cultural events included 4 screenings of my films (The Last Breakfast), written and directed by Abdul Latif Abdel Hamid, and produced by the General Foundation for Cinema in 2019, and (A Tale in Damascus), written by Samah Al-Qatal, directed by Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed, and produced by the Cinema Foundation 2020, within the Abdul Moeen Al Malouhi Hall in the Homs Cultural Center and on Marmarita Cultural Theatre.
