The sea dragon that hit the Akkar Plain area in Tartous governorate caused severe damage to protected crops.
The head of the Agriculture Department in Tartous, Eng. Suhail Al-Sheikh, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the dragon that struck the areas of Plain Mayar Shaker, Plain Yahmour, and Al-Hisha area of Al-Mentar unit caused severe damage to the greenhouses in terms of structures, plastic sheets, and crops.
In turn, the head of the Drought and Natural Disasters Fund in the Tartous Agriculture Directorate, Haider Shaheen, indicated that as a result of the strong air currents and the bad weather that hit the Al-Mentar region, the Mayar Shaker Plain and the Yamour Plain, 80 greenhouses planted with tomatoes, eggplant and zucchini were damaged, and the damage ranged between 55 and 99 percent.
While Muhammad Hassan, director of the Syrian Insurance Company, Tartous branch, explained that based on the role of the institution entrusted with complying with the agricultural contracts that were issued in the eighth month of this year, and according to the procedural guide for agricultural insurance, the damage was limited to the Akkar Plain region in order to follow up on compensation procedures for the owners of damaged property.
