You can discover well-known buildings.
Or even your own house.
The new Grafrath calendar, compiled by local archivist Christel Hiltmann for 2023, shows the municipality from above.
Grafrath – The historical aerial photographs used to adorn postcards, of which Christel Hiltmann has a large collection.
The calendar "Grafrath from a bird's eye view" will be sold for ten euros at the local Christkindl market on December 2nd, 3rd and 4th at the stand of "Grafrather Federn", an association of authors to which Christel Hiltmann also belongs.
It is also available at the town hall cash desk.
The archivist had 120 copies made by the Schöngeisinger Druckerei Gauck.
tourism
There are so many old postcards of today's Grafrath municipality because Unteralting and Wildenroth used to be health resorts and resorts, and were also visited by summer visitors.
Tourism was very important until 1945.
(
By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular
FFB newsletter.)
When looking through her collection of historical postcards, Christel Hiltmann noticed a lot of aerial photos.
This is how the idea for the new calendar theme came about.
The oldest map is from 1899 and shows Wildenroth heading west from the old Brucker Straße.
At the Amper you can see a bath house.
Wildenroth had around 350 inhabitants in 1900. 50 years later there were already 1330, and in 1970 1815 inhabitants.
Much green
You can also see the development of the area compared to today on other aerial photos.
On the photo from 1964 there is still a lot of space and greenery around the Michaelkirche, today the area has been densified.
And the area around the Grafrath train station (which, like the pilgrimage church and post office, bore this name even before the municipality) has changed over the past 40 years.
In a short text in the calendar, the archivist sheds light on the history of Grafrath and the administrative community.
Otherwise the old pictures stand for themselves.
Actually, Hiltmann wanted to put a current one next to the historical aerial photograph for comparison.
But that would have become too complicated because of data protection.
