The Polytechnic University was occupied by demonstrators in November 2019. The police later surrounded the Polytechnic University. Five men and one woman were arrested outside the Polytechnic University when they suspected of trying to escape from the campus, and were charged with rioting and other crimes.
They pleaded not guilty and this is the first riot trial involving PolyU. The case was decided in the District Court today (26th).
The prosecution pointed out that after the defendants fled from PolyU, they changed clothes and discarded equipment in the Science Museum. The prosecution will rely on evidence such as blue water stains on the clothes and that each of them stayed on campus to prove that they had participated in the riots at PolyU. Police set up 14 lines of defense outside PolyU

At 8:00 a.m. on the 18th of the same month, someone set fire to the main entrance of PolyU and emitted a lot of smoke. Many people took the opportunity to escape from PolyU. They entered Science Museum Road along Cheong Wan Road. Some people threw petrol bombs and hard objects at the police line of defense. The police once Tear gas was fired to disperse the crowd. Some people rushed to the parking lot of the Science Museum, while others retreated.
17 people fled into the science museum to change clothes
In this case, 17 people, including the second to sixth defendants, entered the Science Museum, and the police immediately blocked the Science Museum. According to CCTV footage, the five defendants changed into light-colored clothes and took off their gas masks and other equipment.
The security captain of the Science Museum asked everyone to put their clothes into black garbage bags, and took the garbage bags away and put them in the garbage truck in the staff lounge.
The police then entered the Science Museum, arrested 17 people, found the black plastic bag in the staff lounge and seized clothing, equipment and four suspected petrol bombs.
